What is HyFlex?

The HyFlex Carousel

Our HyFlex Carousel is a flexible learning program made for adults with busy or changing schedules. You can join or leave the program at any time—there's no set start date. Each class provides short, 45-minute lessons over math, reading, science, and/or social studies. They're taught by experienced teachers in our partner counties of Clay, Knox, Laurel, and Whitley. Lessons are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening so you can choose which works best for you. Whether you come once a week or every day, we'll help you keep moving forward.

How the Carousel Works

Our classes run on a 4-week cycle, like a ride that loops around. You can “hop on” at any point and begin learning. Each week covers different skills, but are designed to stand alone; you won't feel behind if you start in the middle. We offer lessons at three levels, or tiers: Foundational (beginner), Intermediate (in the middle), and Advanced (offered on-demand for students close to taking the GED test). You can move up when your instructor thinks you're ready. You'll also learn test-taking strategies, time-management, and how to use tools like graphs, maps, and calculators. Everything is built to help you succeed at your own pace.

About Our Programs

All adult education services are free of charge. We provide classes, tests to help determine what you should study, study materials (online and hard copy), and practice testing. The only thing students might have to pay for are official GED exams after passing official practice tests (GED Ready).

The regular cost of these tests is $36 each. However, Kentucky students can often take advantage of statewide promotions that reduce or waive fees altogether for a first attempt at tests, making it free! Test scholarships are also available through donations of those who support our mission.
